Thai Nguyen University of Education Strengthens Educational Cooperation with the Lao People’s Democratic Republic
As part of a working visit to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), a delegation from Thai Nguyen University of Education – Thai Nguyen University, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tu Quang Tan, Vice President of the University, undertook a series of activities and working sessions with the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports, teacher training institutions, and the Embassy of Vietnam in Laos. The delegation included Dr. On Thi My Linh, Head of the Department of Science, Technology and International Cooperation; Dr. Pham Thi Thuy, Principal of Thai Nguyen High School; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Quan, Deputy Head of the Department of Administrative and Organizational Affairs. The working visit not only contributed to expanding cooperation in education and the development of high-quality human resources but also further strengthened the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos.
The delegation visited and held a working session with the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports, where it reported on the management and training of Lao students currently studying at Thai Nguyen University of Education – Thai Nguyen University. The delegation was received by Mrs. Dalavone Kittiphanh, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports of Laos, together with leaders of the Department of International Cooperation, Department of Student Affairs, Department of Higher Education, Department of Teacher Education, and the Ministry’s Office.

In an open, sincere, and friendly atmosphere, Deputy Minister Dalavone Kittiphanh acknowledged and highly appreciated the contributions made by Thai Nguyen University of Education – Thai Nguyen University to the development of human resources for the Lao PDR over the years. The Deputy Minister emphasized that many former Lao students of the University who have returned to their country after graduation are now holding important positions in the Lao education sector, making positive contributions to the country’s development. At the same time, the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports expressed its wish for the University to continue working alongside and supporting the Department of Teacher Education in researching and restructuring the system of teacher training colleges in Laos in the coming period.

During the visit, the delegation also held a working session with the leaders of eight teacher training colleges in the Lao PDR, with the participation of Mrs. Vongduen Osay, Director General of the Department of Teacher Education, Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos. At the session, the parties discussed cooperation needs in the training and professional development of lecturers and teachers, shared experience in educational management, and explored approaches to improving the quality of teacher education amid current educational reform. Mrs. Vongduen Osay highly appreciated the effectiveness of cooperation between Thai Nguyen University of Education – Thai Nguyen University and Lao teacher training institutions in recent years, particularly in professional development and support for staff capacity building. She expressed her hope that the parties would continue implementing practical cooperation programs to help meet the educational development needs of Laos in the new period.

As part of its program in the Lao PDR, the University’s delegation also visited and held a working session at the Embassy of Vietnam in Laos. The delegation was received by Minister-Counsellor Nguyen Manh Ha, Cultural and Educational Counsellor Nguyen Ngoc Thang, and officials from the Cultural and Educational Section. During the meeting, Embassy leaders provided information on the current state of education in Laos and acknowledged the active role played by Thai Nguyen University of Education – Thai Nguyen University in training human resources for Laos over many years. Minister-Counsellor Nguyen Manh Ha proposed that the University continue to pay attention to Lao students, increase the number of the University’s full scholarships, and provide favorable conditions to enable Lao students to study with peace of mind. He also encouraged the University to strengthen the deployment of lecturers to participate in training and professional development prograMrs for teachers of Vietnamese as a foreign language in Laos.

The working visit left many positive impressions and further consolidated the friendly cooperation between Thai Nguyen University of Education – Thai Nguyen University and the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports, teacher training institutions, and the Embassy of Vietnam in Laos. It also serves as further evidence of the University’s reputation, responsibility, and role in international cooperation, particularly in the training of high-quality human resources, thereby contributing to further strengthening the traditional friendship and special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.
