Thai Nguyen University of Education – Thai Nguyen University Hosts the 7th National Scientific Conference on Biological Research and Education in Vietnam
On the morning of August 15, 2026, at Thai Nguyen University of Education – Thai Nguyen University, the 7th National Scientific Conference on Biological Research and Education in Vietnam was formally opened, with the participation of more than 300 delegates, including scientists, educators, lecturers, students, doctoral candidates, and postgraduate students from educational, training, and research institutions across the country. The conference served as a scientific forum for sharing new research findings, exchanging academic perspectives, updating trends in biological research and education, and identifying research priorities for the coming period.

Overview of the Conference
Thai Nguyen University of Education – Thai Nguyen University hosted the 7th National Scientific Conference on Biological Research and Education in Vietnam, in coordination with 14 training, research, and professional organizations in the field of Biology from across the country, including: Vietnam Association of Biological Sciences; Hanoi National University of Education; VNU University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Hanoi National University of Education No. 2; University of Education, Hue University; University of Sciences, Hue University; School of Education, Vinh University; University of Education, University of Danang; Quy Nhon University; Ho Chi Minh City University of Education; VNU International School; University of International Studies, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City; School of Education, Can Tho University; and Hung Vuong University.
The Conference was attended by Prof. Dr. Le Tran Binh, President of the Vietnam Association of Biological Sciences; Dr. Mai Anh Khoa, Head of the Department of Science, Technology and External Relations, Thai Nguyen University; representatives of the leadership of the co-organizing institutions; professors, experts, and scientists from higher education institutions and research institutes nationwide; as well as a large number of researchers, presenters, lecturers, doctoral candidates, postgraduate students, and undergraduate students.

Prof. Dr. Mai Xuan Truong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Rector of the University, Head of the Conference Organizing Committee; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tu Quang Tan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice Rector; leaders of units under and affiliated with the University; as well as staff members, lecturers, doctoral candidates, postgraduate students, and undergraduate students interested in biological research and education.
In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Xuan Truong, Rector of the University and Head of the Conference Organizing Committee, warmly welcomed the scientists, experts, and delegates attending the 7th Conference in Thai Nguyen. He emphasized that the Conference was a meaningful scientific forum for strengthening connections within the community of biological researchers and educators; providing opportunities for scientists to exchange new research findings, share experiences, develop ideas, and identify directions for cooperation in research, training, and science and technology transfer. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Xuan Truong expressed his expectation that the presentations, exchanges, and discussions at the Conference would contribute to updating new trends in life sciences, biotechnology, and biology education, while expanding the cooperation network among universities, research institutes, scientific organizations, and scientists nationwide.

At the Conference, Prof. Dr. Le Tran Binh, President of the Vietnam Association of Biological Sciences, delivered congratulatory remarks and acknowledged the significance of the Conference in maintaining and developing a reputable academic forum for Vietnam’s biological sciences community. Prof. Dr. Le Tran Binh affirmed that, through its successive editions, the Conference has contributed to promoting academic exchange, sharing new research findings and research directions, and strengthening connections among scientists and research and training institutions nationwide. In doing so, the Conference has continued to expand opportunities for cooperation, promote research and the application of achievements in Biology, and improve the quality of human resource training to meet the development requirements of the biological sciences in the new period.

A meaningful highlight of the Conference was the handover ceremony of the host rotating flag for the 8th National Scientific Conference on Biological Research and Education in Vietnam. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Xuan Truong, Rector of the University and representative of Thai Nguyen University of Education – Thai Nguyen University, host institution of the 7th Conference, handed over the rotating flag to a representative of Da Lat University, host institution of the 8th Conference, which is scheduled to be held in 2028.

This year’s Conference received 156 scientific papers selected for publication in the Proceedings; 4 representative presentations for the plenary session; 24 presentations delivered in person across 3 specialized subcommittees; and 34 poster presentations on display.
Immediately after the opening session, the Conference proceeded to the Plenary Scientific Presentation Session, organized into two working sessions featuring four in-depth scientific presentations. In the first session, chaired by Prof. Dr. Doan Nhu Hai and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Lan Hung Son, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Lam, Institute of Oceanography – Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, presented the paper “Harmful Algal Blooms and Challenges in the Taxonomic Identification of Dinoflagellates,” addressing important issues related to harmful algal blooms and challenges in the study and identification of dinoflagellates.
Dr. Nguyen Vu Bao, Thai Nguyen University of Education – Thai Nguyen University, then presented the paper “Gene Editing in Rice for Climate Change Adaptation: Global Advances and New Results from the Biotechnology Research Group,” providing an update on advances in gene-editing technologies in response to climate change adaptation requirements and introducing new research findings from the potential research group in integrated biotechnology.

In the second session, chaired by Prof. Dr. Dinh Quang Bao and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tu Quang Tan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thien Tao, Institute of Biology – Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, presented the paper “Application-Oriented Basic Research in Biodiversity and Conservation: A Case Study of Amphibians and Reptiles in Vietnam.” This was followed by Prof. Dr. Le Anh Vinh, Director of the Institute of Educational Strategy and Policy – Ministry of Education and Training, who presented the paper “Innovation in Teacher Education and Development of High-Quality Human Resources in the Era of Artificial Intelligence.”

In addition to the plenary presentations, the Conference also allocated time for poster presentations and exchanges and discussions among scientists. This activity contributed to strengthening the sharing of research findings, academic exchange, and professional networking among research groups, training institutions, and research institutes.

At the Conference, scientific activities were organized simultaneously in three specialized subcommittees: Basic Biology; Applied Biology and Biotechnology; and Educational Sciences and Biology Education. The presentations focused on a wide range of current research directions, including biodiversity and conservation; molecular biology and genetics; physiology and biochemistry; applications of biotechnology in agriculture, biomedicine, and daily life; the exploitation and analysis of genetic data; innovation in teaching methods and competency assessment; applications of artificial intelligence in Biology education; education for sustainable development; and learner competency development. The Conference received numerous comments, exchanges, discussions, and experience-sharing contributions from scientists and lecturers.

The Educational Sciences and Biology Education Subcommittee focused on emerging issues related to AI, digital competency, and innovation in teaching methods.
To recognize and honor presentations with high quality, outstanding scientific content, and impressive delivery, the Organizing Committee evaluated and awarded prizes to oral presentations at the specialized subcommittees and to poster presentations.
For oral presentations, the Organizing Committee presented three awards for outstanding presentations in the three specialized subcommittees, specifically:
Basic Biology Subcommittee: The presentation “Enzyme-Producing Characteristics of the Entomopathogenic Fungus Strain Purpureocillium lilacinum CPA09,” presented by PhD candidate Le Van Cuong, Hanoi National University of Education.
Applied Biology and Biotechnology Subcommittee: The presentation “A Study on the Effects of Plastic Leachate on the Biological Characteristics of Moina macrocopa (Straus, 1820),” presented by PhD candidate Phan Thi Thao Linh, University of Education, University of Danang.
Educational Sciences and Biology Education Subcommittee: The presentation “Designing an AI Chatbot to Support Students’ Self-Learning in Teaching ‘Metabolism and Energy Conversion in Organisms’ – Grade 11 Biology,” presented by Dr. Ninh Thi Bach Diep, Tan Trao University.
For poster presentations, the Organizing Committee awarded 01 First Prize, 02 Second Prizes, 03 Third Prizes, and 04 Consolation Prizes to authors and groups of authors with outstanding presentations.
01 First Prize was awarded to the group of authors from Hanoi National University of Education.
02 Second Prizes were awarded to the group of authors from VNU University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and Hanoi National University of Education No. 2; and the group of authors from Hanoi National University of Education.
03 Third Prizes were awarded to the group of authors from University of Education, Hue University; Quang Nam College; Hue University; Hue College; and Quy Nhon University; the group of authors from Hanoi National University of Education; and the group of authors from Thai Nguyen University of Education – Thai Nguyen University.
04 Consolation Prizes were awarded to groups of authors, including two prizes for two groups of authors from VNU University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; the group of authors from Hanoi National University of Education; and the group of authors from University of Education, University of Sciences, and University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University.
This result serves as encouragement for authors and research groups to continue developing valuable research directions and actively participating in academic exchange activities within the scientific community in general and in the fields of Biology and Biology education in particular.

After a period of serious, responsible, and effective work, the Conference concluded with a summary and closing session. In his closing remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Xuan Truong, reviewed the Conference’s notable achievements, acknowledged the quality of the scientific presentations and professional discussions during the plenary session and the three subcommittees, and expressed his sincere appreciation to the scientists, experts, presenters, agencies, and organizations whose participation and support contributed to the overall success of the Conference.

The 7th National Scientific Conference on Biological Research and Education in Vietnam was successfully organized, further affirming its role as an annual academic forum connecting scientists and facilitating the exchange of new research findings, while also contributing to stronger connections and cooperation among training institutions, research institutes, enterprises, and scientific organizations in the field of Biology. Through these efforts, the Conference contributes to promoting research, human resource training, technology transfer, and the application of achievements in Biology and Biotechnology in practice, serving socio-economic development and the sustainable development of the country.
