On the afternoon of July 21, 2026, Thai Nguyen University of Education – Thai Nguyen University held a working session and discussed cooperation opportunities with a delegation from the UNESCO Teacher Education Center (TEC) and Shanghai Normal University, China.

Overview of the working session
Attending the meeting was Dr. Nong Hong Hanh, Deputy Head of the Department of Science, Technology and International Relations, representing the leadership of Thai Nguyen University. The delegation included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zhu Xiaohu, Coordinator of the Southeast Asian Teacher Education Program at the UNESCO Teacher Education Center (TEC), and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zhang Jilong, Deputy Director of the Institute of Education, Shanghai Normal University.
Representing Thai Nguyen University of Education were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Xuan Truong, Rector of the University; representatives of the leadership of the Department of Science, Technology and International Cooperation, Department of Academic Affairs, Department of Administration and Organization, Faculty of Psychology and Education; and staff responsible for international cooperation.
In his welcome remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Xuan Truong, Rector of the University, expressed his pleasure at welcoming the delegation from the UNESCO Teacher Education Center (TEC) and Shanghai Normal University. He emphasized that the University is actively pursuing an internationalization strategy by expanding its network of partners, promoting academic exchange, developing high-quality training programs, and strengthening scientific research in line with international integration. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Xuan Truong expressed his expectation that the working session would open up numerous practical cooperation opportunities, contributing to the enhancement of education and training quality, research capacity, and staff development among the participating institutions.

On behalf of the delegation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zhu Xiaohu, Coordinator of the Southeast Asian Teacher Education Program at the UNESCO Teacher Education Center (TEC), highly appreciated the achievements of Thai Nguyen University of Education in teacher education and international cooperation. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zhu Xiaohu noted that the UNESCO Teacher Education Center (TEC) has consistently placed a strong emphasis on promoting cooperation networks among teacher education institutions across the region and around the world. He expressed his desire to strengthen connections with Thai Nguyen University of Education in research, academic exchange, and the development of high-quality human resources in education.

Following this, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zhang Jilong, Deputy Director of the Institute of Education, Shanghai Normal University, gave an overview of the University’s development, its strengths in teacher education, and its research capacity. He also expressed a desire to strengthen cooperation with Thai Nguyen University of Education through academic exchange, scientific research, faculty and student exchanges, and the implementation of collaborative programs in education.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen, Dean of the Faculty of Psychology and Education, provided an overview of the Faculty’s development, key research areas, and ongoing training and professional development programs. She also shared the Faculty’s plans to develop research groups and expand international cooperation in psychology, educational sciences, and teacher professional development, while expressing a desire to establish in-depth cooperation activities with the UNESCO Teacher Education Center (TEC) and Shanghai Normal University in the coming period.

During the meeting, representatives of the leadership and professional units of the participating institutions exchanged views and discussed a wide range of potential areas of cooperation, including the exchange of lecturers, experts, and scholars for teaching, research, and academic knowledge sharing; the co-organization of international conferences, seminars, and academic forums on teacher education, educational management, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence in education; the implementation of joint research projects and co-publication in international journals in such areas as comparative education, educational assessment, teacher development, and education in ethnic minority and disadvantaged areas. In addition, the parties discussed promoting the development of short-term professional development programs for lecturers and educational administrators, strengthening student exchanges, organizing academic and cultural exchange programs, and jointly identifying and implementing international cooperation projects through the network of UNESCO TEC and international organizations in the field of education.

As part of the program, the delegation toured the University’s facilities, learning spaces, and laboratories and explored its teaching and research environment. The delegates highly appreciated the University’s facilities, development orientation, and academic environment, while expressing confidence in the potential for long-term cooperation among the institutions.
