On May 7, 2025, Thai Nguyen University of Education successfully organized the “Vietnam Spring STEM and Culture Camp” for 18 students from Sompanya Secondary School, Lao PDR. This event was a highlight of the educational cooperation program between the two schools, aiming to enhance cultural exchange and share experiences in STEM education between Vietnam and Laos.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tu Quang Tan – Vice Rector of the University delivered the opening remarks.
During the camp, the Laotian students participated in hands-on STEM sessions in Physics and Mathematics. Through engaging scientific topics, they not only explored active learning approaches aligned with STEM education but also developed creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. Many students expressed special excitement, describing the camp as “a completely new and fascinating learning experience.”
In addition to academic activities, the students from Sompanya Secondary School joined cultural exchanges with peers from Thai Nguyen High School. They discovered the beauty of Vietnamese traditions through making bánh chưng (square sticky rice cake), practicing calligraphy, trying on traditional costumes, and playing folk games. These activities offered deeper insights into Vietnamese people and culture while further strengthening the bonds of friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

At the working session between the two institutions, Mr. Khamseum Manivong – Principal of Sompanya Secondary School – expressed his deep gratitude for the warm and thoughtful reception by Thai Nguyen University of Education. He affirmed the practical educational value of the Vietnam Spring STEM and Culture Camp and hoped to expand cooperation, particularly in training programs to improve the qualifications and teaching quality of Sompanya’s teachers.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Xuan Truong – Rector of Thai Nguyen University of Education – emphasized: “Our university always attaches great importance to fostering partnerships with educational institutions in Lao PDR. In the coming time, we will continue to develop training programs in general and STEM education in particular for teachers in Laotian schools.”
The Vietnam Spring STEM and Culture Camp concluded successfully, leaving profound and positive impressions on teachers and students from Sompanya Secondary School, while contributing to deepening the special bond of solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos.
